40 Years After Stonewall

“While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do. Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It’s about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect.”
— Senator Barack Obama

Since becoming President, Mr Obama has signed a memo that will extend extremely limited benefits to the same-sex partners of gay and lesbian federal workers.  Most of which the employees already had.  Wow.  So much for not exploiting us to get elected, eh?

40 years after Stonewall, gays and lesbians are still second-class citizens expected to be grateful for the crumbs bestowed upon us by our supposed political allies and leaders.

We think President Obama needs to know that we are no longer going to settle for crumbs.

We think it is time OUR PRESIDENT lives  up to HIS promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect.

We think it is time for OUR PRESIDENT to show us who HE is as an American.

Servicemen and women are still being discharged under the ludicrous “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy.  The Defense of Marriage Act is still making a mockery of our Constitution. (One only needs to shift their attention to the governor of South Carolina for a moment to see where the true attack on marriage lies – with adulterous affairs.)

LGBT persons are still denied very basic human rights right here in the United States of America.  Every hour of every day.

It’s time for the studies and rhetoric to end.

Gay Equality NOW!
